I am so blessed and humbled to be joining the Ireton Christian School teaching staff. God’s plans are amazing and often hidden just beyond view until….that perfect moment. Throughout the years of my life, I have often looked to Jeremiah 29:11 for encouragement: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God’s plans are always to prosper us.
In an effort to be brief, I will introduce myself with the fly-over version. Here goes…
I began my teaching career at Kinderbarn Preschool in Orange City. After graduating from Northwestern College with a BA in Education and an Early Childhood Endorsement, I taught in Northern British Columbia at the second grade level at both Centennial Christian School and Bulkley Valley Christian School. After seven years in Canada, we returned to Orange City and I worked in the Sioux Center Middle School special needs room for one year. I then spent seven years running an in-home daycare when our daughter, Aarika, was born. The past nine years have been spent at Orange City Christian School, working specifically with special needs students for one year and then teaching fifth grade students. I was also privileged to be able to complete a Master’s Degree at Dordt College during this time.
My husband, Larry, and I have five children that live in three different countries. Our family consists of two grown daughters, two grown sons, a high-school daughter, two son-in-laws, one daughter-in-law, a two year old grandson, and another grandchild due to arrive this coming Christmas.
God truly has the whole world in His hands and what an amazing world it is. I am anticipating a year where God will continue to prosper us together as I take up my work at ICS. I am excited to teach 5th/6th grade Language Arts, as well as being the Resource and TAG instructor. I am looking forward to meeting you all and getting to know your children as we work together for the glory of God and His kingdom during this coming school year.
Blessings, Phyllis Van Gelder
